Winner of the 2008 World Orphan Week Video Contest

SOS is proud to name Ernest Brown, M.D., the winner of the 2008 World Orphan Week Video Contest! Dr. Brown is a rare find in the medical community. He is a D.C.-based family physician working for Unity Health Care who makes house calls for under-served patients in the southeast quadrant of Washington, D.C. Further, Dr. Brown feels privileged to be a part of medical missions to other countries. He recently participated in medical missions in Belize and Cuba and has upcoming missions scheduled for Tanzania and Senegal where he hopes to provide medical services to children at nearby SOS Villages. The medical mission to Senegal is supported by Action Teranga. His son is featured in his video.

Nia M. Barge (nmbarge) works for an international consulting firm that provides fundraising support to national and international causes and organizations, many of which are vested in the interests of at-risk children. She is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Jessika Sobanski (jessikasobanski) is a project manager for a web design group in Long Island, N.Y. and also works in the video editing lab at Suffolk Community College. Sobanski shares her passion for raising awareness of orphaned and abandoned children with her oldest daughter, who volunteered at an orphanage in Fiji for the past two summers.

Paul Goodman and Caleb Heller (GoodHellaProductions) live in Washington, D.C. Paul specializes in Information and Communications Technology with an international development firm and Caleb works in video-editing and animation for a local production company. Paul and Caleb's participation in this contest was fueled by their experiences living and working in the developing world in Brazil and India, respectively. The two will continue to produce similar visual storytelling content through GoodHellaProductions.

Madison Girifalco (MadisonGiro) is a student at Loyola University in Chicago who is majoring in Visual Communications. She wants to use multimedia artwork to raise awareness of impactful causes around the world, specifically issues that address her passion for children. Inspired by Invisible Children, she traveled to Uganda this past summer to volunteer with the Dwon Madiki Partership, an organization that helps send 20 war affected Ugandan children to school.
